As timeshare people. I’m sure our sympathies go with out saying here! Accidents do happen. People slip and fall all the time. But we don’t often die from these actions. I don’t know what happened and believe that is for the family involved…. But I have to offer my utmost respect and condolence to the family. A tragic time to die so young and leaving o many behind who loved him and may not have taken their chance to say ‘’I love you'’. The unexpected loss will have upset many and I trust we can all offer some kind words to his wife, daughter, son in law and any other children, family and friends.
‘You know he is just in the other room…’
God bless them all.

Interview with Timeshare Advisor Magazine
Hello all, hope that you find this a bit interesting. It was printed in the Timeshare Advisor Magazine.

An Interview with TIMEX
“A Do it Yourself” Timeshare Exchange Company
This month s featured company profile is on a new timeshare exchange company called TIMEX. We sat down with CEO Ronald Evans to find out a little more about TIMEX and what they offer to the timeshare community. Mr. Evans is a timeshare owner and industry expert. When we reviewed TIMEX in April, they had over 3240 resorts in their system. You can find TIMEX online at http://www.timex.to

TAM - What was your motivation in creating TIMEX?

RE - Well I am a timeshare owner myself and I believe that timesharing could be a more rewarding experience than it currently is. The idea of timesharing is fine; it is just that some of the practices which have grown up around it have rather spoiled it for some. Gift Certificates for example are an insult to owners. An owner should be able to do anything he or she likes with what is their personal property - without having to pay some extraneous party for the privilege.

TAM - TIMEX appears to be a unique and cost effective solution to other exchange companies that operate in the timeshare industry.

RE - What we set out to do is to use the power of modern computing, the convenience of the Internet and the do-it-yourself spirit which appeals to some of us. We do not charge membership fees or gift certificates; just a very very low cost for the use of our facility.

TAM - Are there any services or programs that your company plans on introducing this year or in 2005?

RE- Yes, we will plan to offer Timex Presentation Weeks and Timex Bargain Weeks to our users very soon. A Timex Presentation Week will be a week requiring attendance at a timeshare presentation and a Timex Bargain Week will not. Rentals for both sorts of weeks will be different and will be related to the maintenance fees paid by owners at the resort.

TAM - How do you plan to position your company against your competitors?

RE - We exist only on the Internet so we are not in direct competition with the existing exchange companies. We are having negotiations with several parties around the world which will enable non-English speakers to benefit from very cheap exchanges. These intermediaries will be legally and financially independent of Timex but they will be the way in which timeshare owners can have full global access to each others resorts.

TAM - How do you envision the industry over the next 5 years and what impact will TIMEX and other exchange companies have on timeshare ownership?

RE - China is likely to be a very large player in the timeshare industry as soon as the legal framework is settled. We, Timex that is, are already in the process of setting up a local presence in China. We hope to be fully operational before the boom in ownership occurs.

It is very well known and acknowledged in the industry that exchanging into other resorts is the single most appealing thing about timeshare ownership.

TAM - Will TIMEX expand into Fractional Ownership programs or any other hybrid of timeshare products?

RE- We already have. Timex is really only a facility to bring timeshare owners together so that they can do whatever deals they like. We have owners trading two bedroom apartments in the low season for one bedroom apartments in the high season; we have traditional timeshare owners trading with owners of points. Whatever owners decide for themselves is fine with us. Maximum flexibility and freedom of action have always been features of our service.

TAM- How can a timeshare owner be certain that another owner will abide by the program if an exchange is agreed upon?

RE - That is easy: bookings are confirmed by the exchangers, usually by email, directly with the resorts concerned. We have never had any problems in that regard.

Timex Exchange Values
Hello, this a post I just left on the TUG bbs.

Hello everyone, Timex here about Timex Exchange Values.
We explain what Exchange Values is all about on the web site but we still get a lot of correspondence from resorts and owners who are unhappy that their superior resort rates so poorly with Timex.
As we keep saying, we do NOT determine these values in any way.
They are determined entirely by the individual timeshare owners who use Timex.
It is clear that the major determinant in exchange values is location - and not the quality of the resort. It’s true, when it comes to realty it’s Location, Location, Location.
Of course some resorts are very pleased with their rating and use it for promotion. Here is what one resort has to say (at www.Starshare.com):

‘Trading Power
How does the Waikiki Banyan compare?
Would owning a week here give you the negotiating power you want? TIMEX exchange is an alternative exchange company that tells it like it is and offers exceptional value for exchanging. They have a comprehensive section on trading power that tells you exactly where your resort rates on exchange value. They use a simple scale of 1 to 10.
1 being the least powerful and 10 the most powerful.

The Waikiki Banyan or as it is also known Sweetwater at Waikiki
Rates a perfect 10 !’

Hope that this is of interest.
Happy holidays.

Points Vs. weeks

Points is actually the older of the two systems. The very first timeshares were developed by Hapimag and they were and are points based. The weeks system was a later improvement from French timeshare developers. The market prefered the new weeks system, and it quickly surpassed points. Multi-developer points systems originated in South Africa where they were the brainchild of a former loan shark (or tallyman as they are called there). For the sordid details of points in South Africa, scroll through www.crimeshare.org/77.html (not all the posts are about points, but look for the ones about CRI, flexi-club, star club, club leisure, etc.)

There was an interesting article in Timesharing Today by California timeshare industry veteran Byron Wiegand a few issues back entitled ‘’Points Revisited'’ that makes interesting reading. He revealed that the process of existing RCI resorts in California changing to RCI Points had ground to a halt with the overwhelming majority remaining weeks-based. He also said that many of the points conversion brokers in California who worked to switch individual owners at Points resorts were getting out of business because they had already reached all of those susceptible to changing.
